Advanced Stone Sculpting – Pointing Techniques

Theme: Copy Techniques

Choosing a technique or method for copying or enlarging a model depends on the complexity of the model and on the sculptor’s creative scope. Precise methods have been used since the 19th century, such as making exact copies with a pointing machine (1:1) and enlarging or mirroring models with the ‘Three-Compass’ method. In both methods the net of main and minor points marked on the model will be precisely transferred onto the stone. With the help of these points it is possible to create an exact copy of the model.
